Senior Organizer, Action Center on Race and the Economy

The Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE) drives campaigns that seek to win structural change by directly taking on the financial elite responsible for pillaging communities of color and working class communities and harming our environment. Through partnerships with organizations involved in local racial, economic, environmental and educational justice campaigns, we provide strategic campaign coordination and campaign infrastructure with an explicit racial justice analysis.

The Senior Organizer is responsible for externally pushing forward ACRE’s key program areas in coordination with other ACRE staff, external partners and allies. The Senior Organizer is expected to synthesize campaign strategy, research and political education into coherent external organizing designed to advance campaigns and bring in new partners. The Senior Organizer is a Grade 2 position and reports to ACRE’s Co-Executive Directors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizing with Partners

    • Support local campaigns partners are already running

    • Connect multiple partners working on similar work across organizational lines

    • Develop relationships with new partners in the work

    • Work with partners to understand ACRE’s analysis

    • Keep track of current work partners are doing and support they may need

    • Represent ACRE in coalition meetings and calls

  • Coordinating Corporate Campaigns

    • Develop and implement ACRE’s strategy around corporate targets relating to one or two of our program areas, with support from Co-Executive Directors and relevant staff from other departments

    • Train local partners on how to orient their campaigns around corporate targets

    • Help local partners plan and strategize for their campaigns taking on corporate actors

    • Effectively use information from research and communications departments to make strategic campaign decisions

  • Liaison with Research Department

    • Stay up to date with all research team’s tasks and projects

    • Assist communications and digital teams in translation of research materials into publicly digestible formats

    • Create political education modules based on latest research materials and projects

    • Connect local partners with research team, when appropriate 

    • Bring partners into new issues ACRE’s research team helps develop

  • Represent ACRE in external-facing spaces

    • Represent ACRE at national campaign meetings, when appropriate

    • Work with communications team to represent ACRE publicly regarding campaign work including media appearances as a spokesperson

    • Help convene national meetings, including potential ACRE annual meetings and coalition meetings


  • A strong commitment to progressive social change and racial justice, a familiarity with the issues that are central to ACRE’s work and a passion for ACRE’s vision and mission

  • At least five years of experience working on corporate campaigns at either grassroots community organizations or unions

  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to think creatively and innovatively.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with women and communities of color for social change

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with researchers

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments

  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision

  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours and travel as needed

  • A good sense of humor

Job Details:

LGBTQ, women and people of color strongly encouraged to apply. Salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000, plus a 10% cost of living adjustment for people living in the New York City, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco/Oakland metropolitan areas. Position includes excellent benefits. Location is flexible but Chicago is preferred.
